Założony w Belfaście w 1978 roku zespół Protex był jednym z pionierów ruchu punkowego w Belfaście. Podpisując kontrakt z legendarną obecnie wytwórnią Good Vibrations, ich debiutancki album zebrał świetne recenzje i cieszył się szerokim odzewem w BBC Radio 1. Szybko zwrócili na siebie uwagę wytwórni Rough Trade Records, która wydała album „Don’t Ring Me Up”, cieszący się szerokim uznaniem. To z kolei doprowadziło do podpisania kontraktu z Polydor Records, która wydała single „I Can’t Cope”, a następnie „I Can Only Dream”. W latach 80. zespół wyruszył w trasę z Boomtown Rats, a także odbył dwie własne, długie trasy koncertowe po Stanach Zjednoczonych i Kanadzie. Album został nagrany z legendarnym producentem Chasem Chandlerem, który współpracował między innymi z Hendrixem, The Animals i Slade. Zespół nie był jednak zadowolony z rezultatu i po wydaniu ostatniego albumu „A Place in Your Heart” zespół i wytwórnia rozstali się, a wkrótce potem Protex zakończył działalność. Przenieśmy się do roku 2010, kiedy nowojorska wytwórnia Sing Sing Records odnalazła nagrania Polydor i wydała album „Strange Obsessions” na winylu, co ponownie rozbudziło zainteresowanie zespołem. Założyciele, Aidan Murtagh i Dave McMaster, reaktywowali zespół, a następnie koncertowali w Irlandii, Hiszpanii i Japonii.
W 2014 roku Protex wystąpił w całej Wielkiej Brytanii, w tym w słynnym londyńskim klubie 100 Club, a następnie został zaproszony do Hotelu Vegas w Austin w Teksasie w ramach festiwalu South By South West. Oba koncerty zostały wyprzedane, a europejskie koncerty odbyły się jeszcze w tym samym roku.
W 2015 roku zespół powrócił na SXSW, tym razem z wyprzedanymi koncertami w Nowym Jorku i New Jersey. Pod koniec 2015 roku wystąpili również we Włoszech i Szwecji, po czym postanowili zrobić sobie przerwę od koncertów, aby napisać i nagrać nowy album studyjny.
Zespół miał powrócić na SXSW w marcu 2016 roku w ramach trasy koncertowej, która obejmowała również Nowy Jork, Atlantę i Filadelfię. Zostali już zaproszeni do USA w marcu 2017 roku i planują kolejne koncerty w Europie jeszcze w tym roku. My, czyli Bachelor Records, jesteśmy BARDZO dumni, że możemy ich gościć przy tym pełnometrażowym wydawnictwie. Fani na całym świecie czekali na nie od dawna – teraz jest gotowe do wydania!

Formed in Belfast in 1978, Protex were early pioneers of the Belfast Punk Movement. Signed to the now legendary Good Vibrations label, their debut release received great reviews and enjoyed widespread airplay on BBC Radio 1. They quickly came to the attention of Rough Trade Records, who released Don’t Ring Me Up to wide acclaim. This in turn led to the band signing for Polydor Records, who released the singles I Can’t Cope, followed by I Can Only Dream. The 1980s saw the band take to the road with the Boomtown Rats as well as embark on two extensive tours of their own throughout the US and Canada. An album was recorded with legendary producer Chas Chandler, who’d worked with, among others, Hendrix, The Animals and Slade. However, the band weren’t happy with the result and after a final release, A Place in Your Heart, the band and label parted ways, Protex splitting soon after.
Fast forward to 2010, when New York’s Sing Sing Records located the Polydor recordings and released Strange Obsessions on vinyl, igniting renewed interest in the band. Founders Aidan Murtagh and Dave McMaster reformed the band and shows followed in Ireland, Spain and Japan.
2014 saw Protex play across the UK, including London’s famous 100 Club, before being invited to play at Hotel Vegas in Austin, Texas as part of the South By South West festival. The two shows sold out and European dates followed later in the year.
2015 saw the band return to SXSW, this time via sold out shows in New York and New Jersey. They also played in Italy and Sweden later in 2015 before taking time out from live work to write and record a new studio album.
The band were due to return to SXSW in March 2016 as part of a tour which would also see them play in New York, Atlanta and Philadephia. They have already been invited back to the USA in March 2017 and will also have more European dates planned later this year.
