The title “Russian Spider Dump” may give the word ambiguity a whole new meaning, meanwhile there’s nothing uncertain about Adolescent’s new release, for this is punk rock at its finest, pertinent in its eagerness to connect sharply with the dangling collection of objects between your legs.

The band’s first release since the untimely passing of founding member Steve Soto, this is actually an assembly of covers, and a damn good one at that. Impervious to any sort of political correctness, numbers like “Lion’s Share”, “Fast, Fucked and Furious” or the adoringly titled “Fuck You” are eloquent exercises in delightful punka-rolla. Adolescents’ romantic views of their homeland comes screaming form the steel trap snap that is “God Bless America” and the ballistic “Dirty Bomb”. It’s all about fire engine riffage and rolling drums, with Tony Reflex gasping out engaging lyrics, spunk and all. And then there’s the odd surprise in the form of the Spirit’s “I Got A Line On You”, a charming pop rock nugget tightly wrapped in a ragged, musty punk tortilla. What’s not to love?
