Fizycznie otulający, złowieszczo piękny i czerpiący z animistycznego ducha natury, Steve Von Till zapowiada swój siódmy solowy album, który ukaże się 16 maja 2025 nakładem Neurot Recordings.
Alone in a World of Wounds to album o zupełnie innej tematyce, z porywającą, gotycką, amerykańską nutą, odlotowymi dronami, pięknymi, pełnymi melodii wokalnymi i powoli rozwijającymi się aranżacjami wiolonczelowymi. Początkowo inspirowany harmonicznym rezonansem fortepianu i syntezatorów oraz długoletnią miłością artysty do muzyki ambient, album Alone in a World of Wounds podąża śladami wydanego w 2021 roku albumu No Wilderness Deep Enough, zachowując refleksyjny nastrój. Otwierając swój głos w sposób, jakiego nigdy wcześniej nie robił, album powstał dzięki intuicyjnym improwizacjom.
„Złożone alikwoty pianina i syntezatorów naprawdę zainspirowały mnie do większego zaangażowania w śpiew, poszukiwania ukrytych harmonii i odkrywania unikalnych podejść w ramach ograniczeń mojego głosu” – mówi Von Till.
Większość nagrań wykonano w jego domowym studiu w stodole w Idaho, a miks w Circular Ruin w Brooklynie w stanie Nowy Jork z doświadczonym producentem Randallem Dunnem (Jóhann Jóhannsson, Sunn O))), Earth, Jim Jarmusch), Alone in a World of Wounds. Okładkę albumu wykonał Brian Deemy, fotograf pracujący w Spokane w stanie Waszyngton, który wykorzystuje estetykę koloidalnej mokrej płyty ferrotypowej. Utwór ten uzupełnia wyjątkową, starożytną, a zarazem ugruntowaną estetykę Tilla, idealnie wpisując się w jego pragnienie ponownego wyobrażenia sobie związku między światem ludzkim a światem wykraczającym poza granice ludzkiego.
Physically enveloping, forebodingly beautiful, and drawing on the animistic spirit of the natural world, Steve Von Till announces his seventh solo LP arriving on May 16th via Neurot Recordings.
Ploughing a different furrow, Alone in a World of Wounds is an album of sweeping gothic tinged Americana, tripped out drones, beautiful world weary vocal melodies and slowly unfurling cello arrangements. Initially inspired by the harmonic resonance of piano and synths and his long standing love of ambient music, Alone in a World of Wounds follows 2021’s No Wilderness Deep Enough in reflective ambiance. Opening up his voice in ways he has never done before, the album’s genesis came via intuitive improvisations.
„The complex overtones of upright piano and synthesizers really inspired me to sing out more, to seek out the implied harmonies, and to find unique approaches within the limitations of my voice.” says Von Till
‘It is the transcendent nature of music, the cathartic healing process where I can leave everything behind and become one with sound. When you allow yourself to go beyond the ordinary you might be fortunate enough to find a moment where you are creating in alignment with the flow of the river of the universe.’
The search for deeper connection, living with the sorrow of our separation from the natural world, and relying on gut level intuition to get closer to the primal creative state are all key to Von Till’s creative process.
Recorded mostly at his barn studio at home in Idaho and mixed at Circular Ruin in Brooklyn, NY, with storied producer Randall Dunn ( Jóhann Jóhannsson, Sunn O))), Earth, Jim Jarmusch), Alone in a World of Wounds also boasts cover artwork from Spokane, WA based alternative process photographer Brian Deemy – who works with colloidal wet plate ‘tintype’ aesthetics, which compliment V on Till’s uniquely ancient yet grounded aesthetic, and one that perfectly matches his desire to re-imagine the connection between the human and the more than human world.
