W połowie lat 90., po kilku latach sporu prawnego z Sony Records, Joe Strummer, który mógł teraz nagrywać solo dla innych wytwórni, założył The Mescaleros, aby wspierać się na przyszłych koncertach i nagrywać z nimi nowe płyty.
Zbierając grupę przyjaciół i muzyków najwyższej klasy, Strummer i zespół podpisali kontrakt z Mercury Records i w 1999 roku wydali swój pierwszy album, napisany wspólnie z byłym klawiszowcem Pulp, Antonym Gennem, zatytułowany „Rock Art And The X-Ray Style”. Wkrótce potem zespół odbył trasę koncertową po Anglii, Europie i Ameryce Północnej.
6 listopada 1999 roku zespół wystąpił w klubie House Of Blues w Los Angeles, gdzie zaprezentował dynamiczny zestaw nowego materiału Mescaleros, łącząc go z solidną dawką starych utworów The Clash, a także kilkoma rzadkimi coverami reggae, które porwały całą salę do szaleństwa radości i ekstazy.
Cały koncert został zarejestrowany na potrzeby transmisji na żywo w radiu FM, a ten znakomity koncert jest teraz dostępny na nowym, dwupłytowym zestawie po raz pierwszy na winylu.

EARLY MESCALEROS BROADCAST FROM 1999
In the mid-1990s, following several years fighting a legal dispute with Sony Records, Joe Strummer, now free to record for other labels as a solo-artist, put together The Mescaleros to back himself on future concerts, and with whom he would make new records.
Gathering a selection of friends and top-flight musicians, Strummer and the band signed with Mercury Records, and released their first album in 1999, co-written with former Pulp keyboard player Antony Genn, called „Rock Art And The X-Ray Style”. A tour of England, Europe, and North America soon followed.
On 6th November ’99, the band performed at L.A.’s House Of Blues venue, where they performed a dynamic set of new Mescaleros material, rubbing shoulders with a healthy dose of old Clash tunes, plus a couple of rare reggae covers, all of which drove the whole house wild with joy and ecstasy.
With the entire proceedings recorded for live FM Radio broadcast, this superb show is now available on this new 2LP set for the first time on vinyl.
