„Anthropocosmic Nest” to drugi długogrający album waszyngtońskiego zespołu The Messthetics, w którego skład wchodzą Anthony Pirog, Joe Lally i Brendan Canty.
The Messthetics powstał w 2016 roku. Pirog to gitarzysta jazzowy i eksperymentalny, mieszkający w Waszyngtonie. Jest częścią duetu Janel i Anthony, a także regularnie występuje z Low Ways Quartet i Jamesem Brandonem Lewisem. Canty i Lally byli sekcją rytmiczną zespołu Fugazi od jego powstania w 1987 roku do zawieszenia działalności w 2002 roku.
Od tego czasu Canty pozostaje aktywny jako twórca filmów dokumentalnych, producent i kompozytor, a także wydał muzykę jako członek zespołu Deathfix. Lally wydał trzy solowe albumy i odbył wiele tras koncertowych z często zmieniającą się obsadą muzyków.
Nagrany w sali prób zespołu w 2019 roku, album idealnie oddaje obecną dynamikę koncertową tria, uzupełnioną improwizacyjnymi akcentami, żartobliwymi eksperymentami i oczyszczającym rozmachem. Kiedy The Messthetics nagrywali swój debiutancki album w 2017 roku, trio miało za sobą zaledwie kilka koncertów i nie do końca odnalazło się na scenie. W pewnym sensie te kompozycje stanowiły wzór dla zespołu, który Pirog, Lally i Canty mieli nadzieję narodzić się dzięki późniejszej pracy w trasie.
Od tego czasu The Messthetics zagrali ponad 200 koncertów w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Europie i Azji. Ich dialog jako zespołu koncertowego siłą rzeczy się skupił i zintensyfikował. W rezultacie Anthropocosmic Nest oferuje bardziej zróżnicowaną wizję zespołu. To najgłośniejszy, a zarazem najcichszy koncert w historii tria.

Anthropocosmic Nest is the second full-length by Washington, D.C.’s The Messthetics, who are Anthony Pirog, Joe Lally, and Brendan Canty.
Formed in 2016 the Messthetics are Anthony Pirog, Joe Lally, and Brendan Canty. Pirog is a jazz and experimental guitarist based in Washington, D.C. One half of the duo Janel and Anthony, he also performs regularly with Low Ways Quartet and James Brandon Lewis. Canty and Lally were the rhythm section of the band Fugazi from its inception in 1987 to its period of hiatus in 2002.
Since then, Canty has remained active as a documentary filmmaker, producer, and composer, and released a music as a member of the band Deathfix. Lally has released three solo albums and toured extensively with a frequently-rotating cast of musicians.
Recorded at the band’s practice space throughout 2019, it’s an album that more perfectly captures the trio’s current live dynamic, complete with improvisational tangents, playful experimentation, and cathartic sprawl. When The Messthetics recorded their debut album in 2017, the trio had only done a handful of shows and had yet to fully find its footing on stage. In a way, those compositions were a template for the band that Pirog, Lally, and Canty hoped would come into being through subsequent work on the road.
Since then, The Messthetics have played upwards of 200 shows across the US, Europe and Asia. Their dialog as a performing unit has necessarily focused and intensified. As a result, Anthropocosmic Nest offers a more varied vision of the band. It’s the loudest the trio has ever been and also the quietest.
